It was bitterly cold when the pup and I set out this morning.
A skin of ice clung to the edge of the creek.
The pup, of course, was still interested in taking a dip.
This did not happen.
I spent several long seconds being snubbed.
A few yards inland, and the marsh mud was frozen solid.
We climbed up an observation tower to see above the Phragmites.
The higher we climbed, the more blue sky we could see.

Warm weather was creeping towards us.
Back home, the earth was softening in the sunshine.
Pink and yellow emerge from brown and grey.
another walk,
another season has begun.

Gorgeous views, we have zero color popping up as everything is still under the snow, I am anxiously watching for color to return.
I love imagining all the warmth and growth and activity that is starting underground even on grey, cold, dreary days. Spring will be here soon, and we’ll be crazy with planting once again. I’m trying to appreciate the lull of activity during winter as its own special time. But the grey on grey does get tiring.
I woke this morning to what I thought was pouring rain. I laid in bed for a bit listening to the lovely sounds of water then peeked out to see it wasn’t raining at all, it warmed up to the low 40s and the several feet of snow we received is melting off the roof falling to make the lovely sounds. The sun is shining and I am hoping this means spring is coming soon.
Lois, what a nice surprise from Mother Nature!
It sure was, even though the temperatures were still rather chilly, the sun was so bright I was able to add warmth by opening my front door, how I missed the open door.
Time to reintroduce morning walks to my day. You have inspired me with your photos and narrative.
Walking the dog is one of my favorite things to do. Although some mornings, I have to remind myself of that
love the photos my friend!!!
I’m trying, Terry.
Nice!, but cold…
It was bitter when we started out. Within 30 minutes, things were warming up. Today, it will be in the 60′s! Poof! Winter’s vanishing.
I hear you, winter didn’t really set up shop for any extended period of time here. I know it necessary, but I’m not a huge fan.
i like that wooden walkway so neat
It’s a brilliant idea, isnt it? We are mostly swampy, most of the time, around here. Having walkways lets us get out in the woods without “too much” muck. I copied the idea for our own little yard, so we can get to the shed without knee high boots.
looks like a raised bicycle trail i once rode across
What a lovely place to be, it looks a lot like some parts of Scotland, as you know still rebuilding my blog, yes it did hurt and took me a while to convince myself to start again but I did and found all these lovely people so a blessing in disguise
You have such a great spirit! Thank you so much for coming over this way. I really enjoy your blog. I saw your weather station, and it said it was 7 degrees in Scotland. Is that F or C? What part of Scotland are you in?
Hiya, that is 7c, last night it was -4c I live on the north east between Dundee and Aberdeen, it a 11 century city called Brechin, pronounced Brekin
